Online Banking in UK Facing Sophisticated Malware Attacks

According to Sophos, a vendor for anti-virus software, Internet banking fraud in the UK dropped one-third in 2007 compared to 2006, with banks still losing £ 22.6 Million to the Internet banking fraudsters. As per reports in 2006 alone, online bank customers in the UK lost a startling £ 33.5 Million to phishers, calling for increased wariness against phishing scams.

New Encryptor Gpcode Variant Demands Ransom for Decryption

Kaspersky Lab, the provider of Internet Threat Management solutions designed to protect computers against all kinds of malware, said that it discovered a variant of Gpcode emcryptor virus called Virus.Win32.Gpcode.ak. Kaspersky Lab issued a signature for the variant on June 4, 2008, as reported by marketwire on June 5, 2008.
