?Spear Phishing? Again Targets CEOs

Norman, the firm for data security, on April 18, 2008, issued an alert that e-mail attacks were being launched that targeted a specific group of people. Thus, a large number of chief executive officers (CEOs) all over the world were receiving fake subpoenas that tricked them to download a false plug-in, which in reality, was a Trojan that allowed the attacker to gain control of the victim’s system. This type of phishing attack that targets a particular class of people is called ’spear phishing.’

Virus Brings Down Computers at San Diego Court

San Diego Superior Court computers were infected with a virus that compelled employees to perform their tasks manually and leading to delay in public services, officials at the court said on April 17, 2008. They further said that the virus was noticed on April 14, 2008 following reports of odd behavior on the desktop.

According to employees, computers were frequently freezing or restarting, which prevented them from getting some of the programs to work. It was found that of the total 1,000 computers within the court’s network, 100 got infected as a result of the vi (more…)

South Korea?s Presidential Office Attacked by Computer Virus

According to the statement released from Cheong Wa Dae, Presidential Office, South Korea, on April 22, 2008, computer virus had attacked on its network causing a leakage of unclassified data.

The attack occurred on the computer networks in the secretarial office of the National Security Council (NSC), Cheong Wa Dae, in which credentials of some office staffers were hacked.
