Botnets Use for Launching Cyber Attacks Rising

According to the Internet security experts, botnet use is rising and it should not surprise anyone because they are cheap and quite effective.

Damballa, an Internet security company, commented on the increasing use of botnets for launching attacks and said that 7.3 Million instances of bots involved in malicious activities were recorded in a single day of January 2008, a significant increase from an average 333,000 recorded in a day in August 2006. G-Archiver Identified as Malicious Spyware

G- Archiver, a program designed to backup a Gmail account to the hard disk of a local computer has been recently criticized after accusations that the application actually gathers usernames and passwords of Gmail accounts, an information that end users do not want to reveal to the company.

Hackers Converted FlashGet files into Trojan-Downloaders

Hackers, who recently broke into the FlashGet Website, have replaced an updated edition of configuration files of a certain program for a seemingly legitimate update, according to Kaspersky, as reported by Virusbulletin on March 17, 2008.

Researchers at Kaspersky analyzed the problem and found that it was creating trouble to all FlashGet users across the world. According to them, files named, inapp4.exe, inapp5.exe, and inapp6.exe, which the company’s Anti-Virus detected as Trojan-Dropper.
